About G-Cloud Framework
G-cloud is an initiative from the UK government for companies interested in selling their cloud computing solutions to the UK government. Here, cloud computing services include cloud hosting services, cloud software, and cloud support services. In G-Cloud, the seller should provide the highest security services. And for the buyer, it is easier to procure services through a framework than by posting and managing multiple and individual contracts.
The framework is Crown Commercial Service (CSS) managed, provides commercial services to the public sector, and is a money saver for the taxpayer. Companies should upgrade their certification regularly to advertise and list their services. The first launch of the G-Cloud framework was in 2012. The categorization of G-Clouds is known as Lots.
- Lot 1: Cloud Hosting – infrastructure-as-a-service(IaaS) and platform-as-a-service(PaaS)
- Lot 2: Cloud Software – software-as-a-service (SaaS)
- Lot 3: Cloud Support
Companies can apply for Lots based on the cloud computing services offered to their public sector. Now G-Cloud is on its 13th iteration.
G-Cloud 13 Framework
For the last iterations till G-Cloud 12, there were 3 Lots. And on the new G-Cloud 13, there is a 4th Lot similar to Lot 3. And Lot 4 is a plan for large and complex requirements. Lot 4 includes cloud computing such as:
- Migration Planning
- Setup
- Migration
- Security services
- Quality assurance and performance testing
- Training
- Ongoing Support
